The souk in the medina of Sousse is particularly worth a visit. Nicknamed the Pearl of the Sahel, Sousse lives up to its name and is ideally located at the gateway to the Sahara. Explore the largest desert in the world and its many landscapes on camelback or in a 4x4 and share some tea with the nomads. During your stay, take a trip to El Jem. The city, founded on the ruins of the ancient city of Thydrus, has a long and eventful history and is well worth a visit. It is particularly famous for its amphitheatre, which was one of the largest in the Roman Empire. Must do Visit the incredible Dar Essid Museum to immerse yourself in the daily life of Sousse's 18th century bourgeoisie. This house, which once belonged to an aristocratic family, is an example of a typical residence of the upper class of this period and features well-preserved rooms lavishly furnished in the traditional style. Located in the heart of the medina, the Ribat of Sousse is a beautiful example of Islamic architecture. It is the oldest fortress in Tunisia and is considered to be one of the most beautiful and best preserved in Africa, which has earned it a place on UNESCO's World Heritage List. The impressive Bourguiba mausoleum, dedicated to the former Tunisian president who died in 2000 and who himself commissioned its construction, is a true architectural feat. It is typically Tunisian in style and its golden dome and two minarets make it hard to miss!
